7/2/08 -- United Way of Greater Lorain County is launching a new social movement to LIVE UNITED. Living United is about the power of unity. United Way is working to Advance the Common Good by focusing on Strengthening Families, Nurturing Children & Youth, and Caring for Basic Needs. These are the building blocks for a good life. On Saturday, June 21, 2008, United Ways across the country will employ a variety of engagement mechanisms around – giving, advocating & volunteering – to launch, create or continue real, lasting change in our communities. 4/4/08 -- United Way of Greater Lorain County has for the first time in five years, surpassed their goal of $2,750,000 by raising a total of $2,842,824.95, which is 3.4% over the goal. The announcement was made before 200+ attendees at their Annual Campaign Celebration held on March 26, 2008 at the Elyria Holiday Inn. “Joy…Joy…Joy…Unspeakable Joy” were the words that flowed from Campaign Chair, Sherman Jones’ mouth as he came to the podium to announce the campaign results. “We are very pleased with the success of the Campaign,” said Jones, Superintendent of Elyria Public Utilities. 3/31/08 -- The “Caring Heart Award” is given in honor of a person who is the United Way of Greater Lorain County's Volunteer of the Year. This person characterizes the “HEART” of our mission which is caring for those in need. The Caring Heart Award was presented at United Way of Greater Lorain County’s Campaign Celebration event on Wednesday, March 26, 2008. This year’s winner is Maria I. Zolli. Full Story2/29/08 -- Lorain County has been chosen to receive $212,877.00 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county. United Way is the secretariat for the Local Board of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP). Lorain County has been chosen to receive EFSP funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the area. Local non-profits are encouraged to apply for these funds by contacting the United Way of Greater Lorain County, Inc. Full Story
