United Way Campaign Kick-Off a success
On Friday, September 9th, the United Way of Greater Lorain County celebrated its 2005 Campaign Kickoff at the Westfield Midway Mall food court. The day began with a breakfast buffet and “Community Fair,” which allowed visitors to learn more about United Way funded programs in Lorain County.
Following the Fair, Campaign Vice-Chairs Cooper Hudnutt, publisher of The Chronicle-Telegram, and Jeff Sudbrook, publisher of The Morning Journal, welcomed guests and spoke about the critical role that the United Way plays in Lorain County. They explained how the campaign theme of “What Matters,” represents the importance of outreach throughout the Lorain County community.
The event was attended by 300 plus supporters and volunteers and marked the agency’s 13th annual “Day of Caring.” During the “Day of Caring,” employees of dozens of area businesses worked with 24 United Way agencies in 25 special projects throughout the county. Many more assisted with special workplace collection drives. The day was a great opportunity to connect with the community and learn about the programs offered through United Way funding.
Leading this year’s campaign is Terry Goode, Vice President of Lorain County Title Company. Along with Hudnutt and Sudbrook, another 24 volunteers comprise the Campaign Cabinet, which oversee the county-wide fundraising efforts.
The 2005 campaign goal is 3,300,000, which is a 10% increase over what was raised last year. The increased goal reflects the county’s rising human service needs. Jerry Skully, Executive Director of the United Way says, “Our campaign dollar goal is $3,300,000, but our human service goal is far greater. It is to positively impact the lives, health and human potential of many thousands of people in Lorain County through services which transform challenges into successful outcomes and despair into hope. Making a meaningful impact is our ultimate goal.”
