The United Way of Greater Lorain County’s Community Impact Fund has three priority impact areas that were determined by an assessment of our community (Impact Report).

Strengthening Families
To enhance the quality of family life and to strengthen families as well as individuals. This Impact area offers a range of programs that support families as nurturers, caretakers and instructors. These program components empower family members to function to the highest degree possible. For example, your support of the United Way’s Community Impact Fund will…

  • Empower individuals to take ownership of their personal health
  • Allow seniors to keep active and to live well, independently
  • Provide nutritious meals to seniors
  • Provide parent education to prevent child abuse and neglect
  • Provide employment development opportunities
  • Provide access to quality and affordable substance abuse treatment and counseling

Nurturing Children and Youth
To ensure that every child be provided a healthy, safe, nurturing, learning environment. To provide assistance in developing assets and protective factors that are proven to reduce those risk factors in the environment. For example, your support of the United Way’s Community Impact Fund will…

  • Provide quality, safe childcare services that emphasize early intervention

Caring for Basic Needs – People in Crisis
To ensure that all people living in the Greater Lorain County community can meet their basic needs for safety, adequate food, daily subsistence, access to safe and affordable shelter, crisis intervention and other situations requiring emergency assistance. For example, your support of the United Way’s Community Impact Fund will…

  • Maintain safe and affordable shelter for individuals and families in crisis
  • Maintain the adequacy of the food supply for individuals and families
  • Provide strong and effective case management, advocacy and crisis intervention
  • Provide emergency assistance and disaster aid

Caring for Basic Needs – Greatest Needs
To ensure that those most in need of assistance in maintaining physical and mental well being and accessing those resources which are critical for sustaining subsistence, independence, self sufficiency and quality of life standards. For example, your support of the United Way’s Community Impact Fund will…

  • Improve individual and family functioning through therapy, counseling or case work
  • Increase access to support services for those experiencing a critical human service need
  • Increase the community, social and emotional support opportunities for personals with disabilities
  • Reduce physical, social and emotional isolation of personas with disabilities or other human barriers
