Developing a United Way fund raising campaign at your school is easy, educational and fun. By getting involved, students will learn all about helping those in need in their community, volunteering and philanthropy. Below is sample of the different kinds of activities that students have done in the past to raise funds for the United Way:
Student Fund Raising Activities
- SPIRIT LINK - sell links (made out of construction paper or whatever) to students at minimal cost. You can have a prize for the class/homeroom with most “links” such as a pizza party or an ice cream social.
- PENNY WARS - competition usually initiated between homerooms. Silver coins decrease donated total, pennies add to donated total. Students “sabotage” the donations of other homerooms with silver coins.
- CRAZY HAT DAY - have individuals purchase the rights to wear a hat on a designated day. United way can provide stickers to put on hats to ensure donation was made by individual wearing the hat. You can collect $.10, $.25, $1.00 or any amount you wish.
- BAKE SALE - Sell baked goods donated by the parents, students, and staff. Proceeds for United Way.
- COLLECTION CANS - cans set up at sports events at concession stands, lunch rooms or other gathering places throughout the school.
- PUMPKIN SEED CONTEST - guess number of seeds in pumpkin, entry must be accompanied by $1.00, winner gets public recognition and gift certificate.
- GIVE UP YOUR SNACK WEEK - Donate money normally spent on snacks.
- COUNT THE... A gallon jug of "something" - tootsie rolls, beans, peanuts, gum balls, etc. Pay for the chance to guess. Winner wins the jug and a movie pass or any other prize that can be donated.
- SCHOOL CLUB/BOOSTER DONATIONS
- DANCES - proceeds of regular dances donated to United Way.
